David,
Nice to hear I am not the only guy struggling when I hunt woodcock. That is a good looking dog you have too. Congratulations |

Hunted for a couple of hours today. Hank gets better each time out. Two solid points, great flushes, and 4 shots fired with no bird. It is still a joy to be able to hunt in my back yard. Mills how did it go with Sherwood?

Sherwood did very well. The only thing he did not do was find and point a live bird by himself

Pups are pups, and they develop over time. Patience is rewarded in the end (at least most of the time!). My best dog -- a once-in-a-lifetime-dog -- was a really slow starter, and I thought he was not going to make any sort of a bird dog. Once he had a couple of years behind his bracemate, he really got religion and was amazing...on all birds that we hunted. Sherwood has the genes; you give him the chances, and consistent guidance, and you'll have many happy years ahead.
