Default Newly Discovered Feature on Parker's?

Interesting feature....screws tapped into the breech end of the barrel flats. For what purpose? Any ideas?

May have been done in an attempt to tighten up the action. Notice the peening marks above the one - sometimes done to displace metal for the same purpose.

I thought of that also Kevin, but it just seemed like such a half-azzed method and the screw heads are countersunk a bit and certainly wouldn't tighten anything up.

Can you turn the screws? This is a wild guess....but maybe to put some tension on the shells so when the action is open they don't fall out? You might have to set them differently for different brands of shells.

I recently saw on one of the bird hunting shows that CZ magnetizes their chambers now so shells don't fall out when the action is open.

Again just a guess...

Jay, I think you may have something there. And the rounded tips of the screws seem to support your theory.

Or we could just adopt Dave Suponski’s method of biting the shell base to distort it a bit to fit tighter in the chamber.

I like the idea of that feature as well and it would be a real benefit on a hammer gun. Or a a hammerless gun without a safety...

Unlikely, but maybe set screws to hold chamber adaptors in place?
