Default Ithaca Crass 12 gauge

I looked at what I assume is an Ithaca Crass 12 gauge seriel numbered 131,xxx . That would make it approx a 1908 gun . I buy all that . The numbers match barrels , forened and water table . The only thing I question are the fluid steel barrels on this one . The condition overall of the gun appears to be the same with no refinishing thats apperant .

Things at a semi local auction . So I put what I consider a safe bid . If I get it I get it and if I don't oh well !

They also have a Lefever 16 gauge in rather nice shape , this is one of the later Ithaca Lefevers and again I put what I thought was a safe bid .

They had a nice old Marlin 336SC in 35 REM with a very nice old Weaver K3 on top . I should have put a bid on that one as well , but then if I got it I'd need to get dies , brass and bullet molds again . Sold all my 35 REM stuff about 3 years agao and no need to go back now ! This gun was a 1955 gun that appearred to be in rather good shape albeit the blueing was worn on the underside from carrying .

Craig, I don't think your looking at a Crass model Ithaca.
As per Walt Snyder's book "The Ithaca Gun Co. from the beginning", "No Crass were produced beyond serial # 50,000."
The Lewis model started at #55,000.
The MINIER model started in 1906 with serial # 130,000 to# 151770.
There are pictures in the book of higher grade Minier guns with Krupp Steel barrels. HTH

Okay I stand corrected

I doubt if I get the gun as I didn't leave a very high bid .

Thanks for the info !

I have a friend with several Ithaca Lewis doubles, one twist, one steel. They both are a delight to carry and very easy to shoot with fairly modern dimensions, You should be pleased.

I'm going to try this Ithaca tommorrow with my newly handloaded 0 Buck loads at 25 yards . I put the choke gauge to it a little earlier today and it's showing IC/F .
