Folks who are a lot more knowledgable that I will give a better response, I'm sure, but I question the authenticy of the stock. Poor fit of the butt plate and non-mullered border seems strange to me, but still a really clean gun

Some may be interested to know that this is the same Seller who was selling the "Museum Quality" 28g a few weeks ago that got so much chatter in the members only section of the board. There was a LOT of issues and questions about that gun. And the seller basically ignored many inquiries from people who asked questions of him through gunbroker.
I cannot comment much not he originality of the gun since I cannot easily say for sure one way or another... But I will point out my thoughts on a few of the things mentioned already in this thread. 1: Yes, very nigh grade wood on low grade Parkers was very common in the Ilion made guns. 2: The fit of the buttplate should not be looked at too harshly as that can happen due to climate changes with the wood and moisture. A new plate can be fitted to a gun perfectly and 6 months later the fit can be off one way or another due to shrinking and swelling of the wood. 3: The lack of a mullered border is perfectly normal for an Ilion manufactured gun.

Just food for thought. Here is the grip checkering on a GHE with a bit lower serial number --

I remember that 28 and I learned a LOT from that thread. To my untrained eye the first thing I noticed was the obvious new case colors over some areas that had been worn in the past. The butt plate I wondered about. The grip cap says Meriden but am I correct in assuming that Ilion guns may have those on them to use up stock??

It is extremely difficult to find ANYTHING wrong with this late Parker.
The checkering and borders are absolutely correct - the wood is what I would expect to see on a Grade 2 Ilion Parker - the grip cap indicating Meriden is pretty typical, not all late ones said Ilion - the fit of the butt plate is a bit suspect... we would have expected the wood to have shrunk rather than swelled - the barrel blue is exactly what we should expect of a low grade Ilion Parker - the list goes on.... The engraving around the screw tip on the top tang behind the safety is a new one on me but who's to say it isn't original? The case colors look like they could have been done by Turnbull... but judging by the condition of the rest of the gun (which I believe is original) they may very well be original Remington colors. If I was in the market for a gun such as this one I would pounce on it and keep bidding.... .

The case colors and finish on the stock aren’t like any of the Ilion guns I have.

Once again I am reminded of the value of membership in this Association. This is a fascinating thread.
