Happy Thanksgiving to all my PGCA friends. Those I've had the pleasure to meet in person and those I've only met on this site. I took the gun that started it all for me hunting on this special Thanksgiving. The Stevens .410 was sharp today, although I will have to clean the left barrel too. Remington 3”, 11/16 oz of 7.5’s at 1135 fps. The dogs flushed the first bird at about 25 yards and I dropped it dead. I missed the first shot on the 2nd of bird at about 25 and dumped it dead at 40 yards with the 2nd shot. I’ve taken a lot of cottontails, quail, woodcock and pheasants with that shell.

The one factory load that I've found, that is better for me, is the WW 3/4 oz. load. Several of my .410s are regulated with it, when they aren't with any other loading that I ever tried. That was eye opening to me. They are slow also, at about 1145 as I recall.

i have developed a "super" .410 hunting load, using no. 8 1/2 nickel plated shot. It contains .73 oz. (can we call that a 3/4 oz. load?) of shot, and has to be roll crimped. But, it is the hammer of Thor on small gamebirds.

As for the .410: you and Stan need to cut that stuff out(!) I already bought a .410 for woodcock...now I'll have to get another for pheasants(?!?). What's next, ducks???

Well, since you asked, Garry. I'm about to load up some no. 8 1/2 TSS (tungsten) to attempt to kill a limit of woodies with a .410 double. My buddy has hunted/taken gobblers with TSS and a .410 for several seasons now, in 8 1/2 and 9 sizes, and assures me the 8 1/2s will shoot clean through a woodie. Will keep you posted on progress made in that direction.

This would, of course, require you to have a modern made .410 for the tungsten, preferably with chrome lined bores. I'll keep on the look out for you.

That's great Dan, nothing like a Thanksgiving morning hunt! We shot dove here in AZ. Not the greatest shoot due to the wind and dust, but it was good to get back to tradition. I have an early set of Crescent 410s I shoot.
