Default Good morning today

I was fortunate to take two mature grouse this morning. I hunted 3 places, flushed five birds, shot at three and bagged two (our daily limit). Here they are on the steps of the cabin along with my 20 bore Sterlingworth. Shells were the Gamebore 28 gram load of UK 7’s that I’ve really gotten to like. Both birds had green leaf pieces and wintergreen berries in their crops.

Today finishes me up for grouse until after rifle bear season, Thanksgiving and rifle deer season.

A Red Letter Day! I hope you keep a journal.

Hey Rich, yeah I'm pretty steady and chase deer too.

Ok, now how about you telling us about your epic 5 week grouse trip to the UP with the two dogs and 10-12 hand picked guns in the truck? Maybe I missed it but I don't remember seeing your report or any pics. Please post the link, or please tell us now how it went along with pics of your birds. Letsee, 5 weeks = 35 days in the covers assuming you can hunt there on Sundays. At least one grouse a day over your dogs should carry over to 30-35 birds in pics, maybe more!

I'll get to it Frank I promise but I'm on my 13th day of deer season. I have used four custom rifles shot an 8 point with a 6.5X55 and a big doe with a sweet rifle using a Ruger #1 action in 7MM-08. I have a new one on a Winchester High Wall in 38-55 that will get sighted in for the second season 12/6-12/23 then there is the late doe season 12/23-1/1.
Rifles and shotguns keep me busy

Rich,

What load did you settle on for the 6.5x55?

I haven't really settled on anything but I used this load and have no complaints with it. 42gr of IMR 4350 CCI large rifle primer with 140gr Hornady SST bullets.
The rifle is built on a 1909 Argentine Mauser action and sports a 24 inch barrel matched to a full Manlicher stock of English walnut.
