Phil ,since I am a Low Tech ,kind of Guy ,I don't fool with spread sheets etc .but I do keep a Journal for my Family ! I have all pertinent info. listed including ,Bank Accts. ,Ins. Policies ,Safe Deposit Boxes ,Deeds etc. but most of my concern is for my " Toys " as I am really the only one who knows what they are and a correct value ! In this Journal I keep a very accurate and up to date record of all of my Firearms ,I list the Serial # first so there can be no mistake on which gun I am speaking of ,then a short description ,the amount I paid and what I feel Market Value is , I try to keep this updated because of the changing economy ,which is difficult on the less expensive but for the better guns ,we all follow that pretty well ! I even go as far as listing who I would like to end up with the Gun ,For example .I know ,Mr. Romig has always had an affection for my CHE 20 ,so I have in my Journal ,Dean was the first to mention ,should I ever sell this Gun ,he would have an interest ,so in my Journal , I have Dean listed with Phone # and contact info. for my Wife or my Daughter to contact Him first should something happen to me ! " By the way ,I hope this is a Far Off event " ,then I have Chuck Brunner , " Greenes Guns " listed as the dealer to contact to sell the rest of what ever is left , Just a side note ,Chuck is Second on the CHE " I feel you need a good Honest Person to represent your family ,this day in age it is hard to find some one you trust ,that is why I named Names ! I have told my closer Friends ,I have done this since my Daughter was born in the chance something would happen to myself and my Wife at the same time ,but so far ,I don't think any of them have followed suit ! Best ; Russ

When I got my C&R, I was looking for a good logbook, and found these people.

I, like Russ am a low tech guy most of the time. NRA has a nice leather bound journal which I purchased as I keep my guns separate for several reasons. You can list your guns on separate pages and include a photo if you wish. In the rear are bill of sale pages for your transactions. A little pricey at $49.95 but a very nice journal.

Jean and I created an Excel spreadsheet document quite a few years ago titled ' Death Road Map'. This spreadsheet lists all our valuables, passwords etc. in great detail plus a step by step process our 2 daughters are to follow in managing the estate and disposition of certain property items (This is of course in addition or supplemental to our wills.) in our demise. Each of the girls has a copy and we update/distribute it to them as changes occur.
They keep telling us to 'don't spend it all!'., lol We tell them you'll never see a Brinks truck follow a hearse. LOL |
