Dean,
I don't think it's so much Repro stocks that are susceptable to breaking, but rather whether or not the grain is lined up well. Claro, black and english walnut all have a good success history of bending. I haven't really studied Repro stocks, but possibly there are a lot with less than ideal grain in the wrist? Years ago I had a Steel Shot Special that I used to own bent up 1/4" at the heel (English walnut). No problema.

A quick look at the guns offered on the net and it looks like there's plenty of Repros with less than ideal grain in the wrist for bending.
