Default New Feathers

Been here in Cold Bay, Alaska a few days and it's been excellent. Four new species taken:

Willow Ptarmigan
Aleutian Teal
Harlequin Duck
King Eider

I had to shoot the Ptarmigan with a Winchester Model 21 because it's non-toxic only up here and I wasn't running steel through the Swamp Angel. Plus it was rainy and that's really all a Model 21 is, just a secondary rain day gun. The rest were taken with the appropriate fowling piece.

What gun and load did you use to shoot the sea ducks.

Default Cold Bay duck hunt

You look like your enjoying yourself very much Destry. Your Harlequin is really colored up for this early in the season. And the Aleutian Teal was not a duck we took while I was up there. I would consider having one of those mounted as well as that beautiful Harlequin. Have you shot any Brant yet? I do know I discovered why it is called COLD Bay, that wind is vicious. The fresh Willow Ptarmigan are great eating when you saute them in olive oil and butter and cook them rare. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

The Aleutian Teal don't get down here till pretty late in the season.

The brant get wise to the shoreline hunting and you only get them from the layout boat this late. I'm not much for layout boat hunting but I killed a lot of brant when I was here last time.

That is a SERIOUS collection of bands! I envy you the hours spent collecting them. Wonderful. What is the Swamp Angel?

The Swamp Angel is the name I made up for my big #3 frame 34 inch DHE. Guns like that need a name.

That string of bands is the string of my adult life. Taken from coast to coast and even as far away as Ireland.

I love that!, and agree. But, you can fill that slot just as well with a Stevens 311, and for a lot less $$$.
