Default First Shots...

...from a new gun are special, and should be taken only after great deliberation and planning. Because of the good will of a member, I was able to acquire a "bucket list gun" -- a straight-splinter, two trigger, Damascus barreled, high grade 16 gauge Parker; in this case a BHE. I waited almost a year to find the right time and place to blood this gun. On a damp and still December day, it seemed right to take the gun along for a wild Bob hunt on a favored farm. Aspen found a nice covey from which I was able to cleanly take a right-barrel bird. The covey was large enough to pursue singles, and we did so. Another point by Aspen and a second shot for the BHE.

Is there anything more satisfying to a hunter than the explosion of feathers from a centered bird, taken over the point of his own dog...and having only to clean the right barrel of your gun at day's end?

Very nice ! I’m doing something kinda similar tomorrow . I’m going to do a tower shoot with the new to me VH 20 32” , the kicker being I’ve fired exactly two shells in the gun . Did the same thing last week with the new to me DH 10 32” and it turned out okay and come to think of it I’d not even fired two shells in the 10 before going to the shoot . That’s the BIG problem with having a bunch of shotguns you enjoy shooting ! You can’t shoot them all “ALL THE TIME”

You just need to liquidate some more of those nice guns, Craig. That comment from a hypocrite former Virginia resident...(a.k.a. me!)

Maybe not equal ........... but close? Two years ago I hunted a new to me 20 ga. Fox Sterlingworth Ejector, 28" barrels, on which I had gotten Dean Harris to open the chokes to .006" and .016", R and L. First point, I walked up and they exploded. I picked a bird and downed it with the right. Saw another going to my left and nailed it with the left. Went to pick up the last and when I came back my host handed me two others. I had taken two with the first shot, cleanly. Three, with the first two shots out of the gun.

It's further proven itself to be a dog nuts quail gun.

Now, those are some shots to be remembered (and I like those choke borings!).

Beautiful little 16, great photography, and good shooting.
