Default Newfoundland Grouse 2022

Another great year in Newfoundland hunting with my good friend C. Dawe. Missing 2 COVID years made me forget how much work it is chasing grouse in the thick alders. To hunt here with Chris and his dogs, to become battered and bruised, and to enjoy this beautiful rugged country, I am blessed.

I hunted with my DH 20 gauge, 26” barrel, straight grip. Chris bounced back and forth from his custom Lefever 20 ga and his custom Belgium 28 ga.

I love Newfoundland Have hunted there twice bringing home a nice Woodland Caribou the first time an a Bull Moose the second. Wonderful folks, great food and stunning country.

The birds were brought here about 50 years ago I believe, trapped in Michigan and imported. No one hunts them with dogs, they think Chris is crazy. They shoot them on the road sides with .22’s and ground swat them with shotguns.

I keep looking at those great photos. Interesting country, and I see the frost has not burned some of the ferns yet. I also like the interesting tree (we have lots of tree pictures among our hunting photos) and the interior shot with the grouse hanging outside the window. Nice!

[QUOTE=Brian Hornacek;374921]The birds were brought here about 50 years ago I believe, trapped in Michigan and imported.

everything ive read said that this isnt a viable strategy. is this documented anywhere? does anyone know more about this? Turkeys have been widely redistributed like so but apparently not grouse.

looks like beautiful cover.
