I'll throw out 2cents. My experience is that $3k would be low - by quite a bit. I had a recent quote from Turnbull for a V grade - I hope it isnt bad form to share? Seems it would save them time in the future if people knew the ball park before contacting them.
"BUTTSTOCK New butt stock, capped pistol-grip, Field grade Amer. walnut with repro spurred Parker hard rubber buttplate fitted, with german silver shield inletted in belly of stock. hand-rubbed Oil finish - $4,250.00. Keep in mind that is the stock. you wanted a new forend to match i would think. Turn new splinter forend. Field-grade American Walnut, properly fit to forend iron & barrels, with latch & tip fitted as original. Hand-rubbed oil finish. $1,800.00 I would guess at D grade at same vendor would be appreciably more as the wood blank would be more labor difference between working a V and D. * Second data point from a one person shop that is well known and recommended for stock replacement: This was for a D grade gun. Wood = $600-1500 Labor = $4,700 Skeleton butt plate =$ 900 or silvers pad /install= $350 * I decided to re stock a D grade I have and am in the waiting game on that one. The V grade - I am going to keep as is and just appreciate it for what it is - and I bought a very original nice V grade from Josh L with the unused re stock budget. I guess what you have to decide is if you want a $6500 re-stocked V grade. Or a very nice original well documented V grade for the same price. No wrong answer. * Your results may vary if you inquire around - everyone with any reputation for it was either not taking work - or very busy - ie. 6 months to start or more and up to a year to finish. Need some people on here to buy their sons / daughters wood replicators and a work bench. The path to be an expert in 2035 starts today. -David |

Something to consider - One thing about doing a re stock - is it will be your gun. They take measurements, talk to you about use , etc. You pick from a selection of wood blanks and make it look exactly to your taste. So, there is value in the re stock vs buying a gun that isnt quite the right length, drop , wood, look etc. An important consideration that doesnt show up in just the 'how much $' discussion is how much do you value having exactly what you want. Fitted suit VS off the rack. The price is different. but so is the product and outcome..

You must remember that Turnbulls shop is also very top of the market price wise. By about 50%

Considering Harry S might have the same question when his gun arrives.. Is there a list of group approved list of stock makers that will do a V grade for 3k with appropriate wood, checkering, and quality.
