Default squirl tales

left the house at 2.00 pm took my little jack russel thats just begun to tree and the old 10 ga...we had gone about 50 steps into the woods and set down on the ground little dog just decided to set by me all at once them ears went straight up and them eyes were really moving...daisey had spotted a big gray on the ground..that gray jumped up on the tree and started barking at us daisey the dog was not moving a muscle just real tense...the squirl moved on up the tree and daisey had lost interest in the squirl so i got up and tried to locate that squirl where he went is anybody guess...moved about another hundred yards and set down we seen 3 more squirls. daisey seen all the squirls running but never gave chase or barked...daiseys hunting buddy was killed and eaten by coyotes last year she was the main hunting dog and daisey had treed 4 squirls on her own last end of season..so far this year she onlytreed one on her own...she seems to still be interested but she stays by my side or behind me while walking as the leaves are about off here i hope to be able to shoot a few out to her hoping shell get back in the groove.. anybody got any suggestions and no she aint gunshy.... charlie

Keep trying Charlie! We had a Semoyed on our farm that would see squirrels LONG before we ever did. She would actually run them down on the ground and catch them!

took daisiy the little jack russel out for a hunt today..she showed a lot more interest today...between her and me we managed to get 3 squirls...not barking enough yet and shes still mostly wathing for them instead of using her nose...used the old remy 22 auto today my scope messed up on it so i took it off before going hunting..i really surprized myself on 2 of those kills one of the squirls was taken at least 60 steps and the otherat 50...no they were not head shots and both were shot at more than once...but not bad shootin for open sights and old eyes.... charlie

was doing work around my house heard the little dog daisey barking treed...stopped my work andrun in house and grabbed first gun in sight was the old parker 8 ga....got to where she was treed at in about 5 minutes...she barked loud and fast till i got to the tree then she stopped...wish she would continue barking but i can live with her barking till i get there....took me a while to locate the squirl....i done a lot of hissing and vine pulling moved around the tree couple times...was about to give up but that squirl made a mistake and showed hisself...left hammer was cocked and gun aimed a slight squeeze of thetrigger and down came the squirl....little dog seen it fall and grabbed and shook it good was really proud of her..i believe shes headed in the rite direction now just need to pour the hunting on her... charlie ps also scared up another covey of quail today 2 coveys in aseason new record around the house....

Charlie, I thought you were going to tell us you inadvertently used one of your 8 gauge pumpkin balls on that squirrel... but the fact that something was left to hit the ground indicates otherwise.
