Default VH

Did Parker sell the VH grade to the public or just higher grade? I just received the info on my great grandfather’s 28 VH and was disappointed his name wasn’t on it. Looks like he ordered it from mail order catalogue H&D Folsom out of New York. Still love having both the gun and the info.

Parker Brothers sold the lower grades primarily to sporting stores and hardware stores in bulk... sometimes a hundred or more guns in a single order, depending on the size of the store. HD Folsom was one of the major retailers of Parker guns.

What is the serial number of your Parker Jeff? It may show up in the G&H records of Parkers that went through A&F or VL&D.

Thanks Jeff - I just checked in the Griffin & Howe records of Parker serial numbers that I mentioned in my previous post and 178770 is not among those serial numbers so I guess, like soo many other Parker shotgun owners have experienced, there is no other recorded information on your gun that we know of.

Incidentally, The G&H listing of Parker serial numbers can be found in the Winter 2017 and the Spring 2018 issues of Parker Pages.

Lower grade guns could be directly ordered by individuals, but unless the customer wanted to do so, or had very special requests. They would have likely just ordered from a local retailer who maybe had one already in stock.
Or even if they had custom requirements, they would still order the gun through a local retailer.
