Good work Kurt!
Looking forward to hunting with you next week. The boys are out this afternoon in Canada, they're wearing them out on this big wind so I hear. Destry

You really want to clean some gunk off Kurt you put a jar full of lacquer thinner into the sonic cleaner, pour water in around it to the proper level in the cleaner and put the parts into the thinner with a slightly loose lid. I have a jar full of thinner reserved for just that and it will clean off decades old gunk like nothing else. Doesn't take long either.

Did you hunt this weekend Kurt?
We had a decent Saturday but didn't set the world on fire. See you Wednesday hopefully...... Destry

[QUOTE=Kurt Densmore;6496]The old girl also makes for a quick handling diver gun.... I got lucky and knocked down a pair of redheads crossing at about 40 yards. Both cripples and the tender had to chase them around a little. Last weeks hunting was slower than I like. Only being able to shoot two redhead and two scaup the day can be over in a hurry if the birds move. Not much wind and pressured birds doesn't help. It is a damascus bbl DHE with Parker SST build in about 1926, 28" bbls and under 7lbs.

Nice looking rig Kurt-is your boat built with a laid-up fiberglas over a spruce frame? What are dims. aprox.? What do you use for a tender boat then? It's been many years since I had a layout boat and 300 bluebill dekes (shared with a now gone hunting partner) back when I belonged to the MDHA and we had the "point system" in MI- scaups (both greater and lesser) were ten points each-- FYI-and any other diver duck hunters in the PGCA- when I visited Brad Bachelder last week- he mentioned he has about 200 Flambeau weighted keel diver decoys (mainly scaups- both sexes) for sale at aprox. $2.00 each- he had one of them on display in his shop. Like me, years ago he hunted divers big time- our area lakes were "treated" for weed growth- no more divers- Contact Brad at Bachelder Master Gunmakers- phone 616- 459-3636 or e-mail him at bachelderfirearm@aol.com |
