Default Need a new 16 ga recipe...

OK members,

I've given up, can't wait any longer and I need help! I cannot get Universal powder, trap season is coming up, and I need to make shells.
Here is what I have:

Once fired RST 16 ga. hulls. 1000's of them
1000, Cheddite Primers
7/8 ounce lead shot
Can't remember the plastic wads name but if that is critical I can get you that
NO FREAKING POWDER!

Now I was using about 19.5 GR of powder in the past so I'd like to work around that amount if I can?

I need one good recipe that will work with the stuff I have already. Shells are going into my beloved 16 ga. VH with 28" barrels or the GH 16 ga.
I am in NO WAY a good shooter so accuracy and all the factors that shooters take into account do not matter to me. I just like to shoot at the clays and watch them break. This year I'm hoping to average 38-40 out of 50 and on a sporting clays course get as close to 50 % as I can.

I thank you for all of your help in advance. Matt

Here is a possible 3/4 oz that will break plenty of clays for you with Longshot powder that came from the 16 Gauge low pressure groups's spreadsheet:

Cheddite 2 1/2" 16 Gauge
3/4 oz
Longshot 18.8 grains
Cheddite 209
SG-16 Wad
1138 fps 4733psi
Armbrust Pressure Test 7-10-05 (Tom's comment very consistent load)

Natchez has Green Dot in stock now, you should be able to get where you want to go using it with 7/8 oz of shot. I have also heard that there are some nice 16 ga loads using 20/28 powder. This day and time you kind of have to go with what you can get, I too load Universal but before that I used Unique in my 1 oz loads, I ordered 5 lbs of Unique a few days ago from Natchez,I know it will work also but I will have to adjust the powder bushing. Green Dot makes a nice 7/8 oz load in the 16.

Matt's 16g load works as well as 7/8 oz and 19g Longshot. That's my pheasant/bird load.

Thanks for that load Jeff, I have a metric ton of American Select. 2 3/4"?? I wish I had that, I have tons of 2.5" cheddite (RST) hulls.

The DR-16 wads are usually hard to find.I had an order in at Recobs for several months before I got any. That was a couple years ago. They only make a limited annual run of that wad I was told.I have other loads listed in my loading book with other components for 2 1/2 inch hulls and have psi and fps listed with them but not the source of the test so am hesitant to share them.I found most of them on 16 gauge society site I believe. The particular load I listed is really mild and mostly what I shoot at targets.

Mat,

BP wads, if you can not find the DR 16, with Universal or International shoot just fine. Nick Sisley published a series using RST, Cheddite hulls, with both the BP, Gulandi 16, and the DR wads. These recipes are now on the Hogdon web site. Look at the LC Smith Collectors site. Charlie Brooks posted loads using 20/28 in Gulandi wads in 7/8. I have loaded and shot these in both 3/4 and 7/8. Shoot just fine. CAC associates in PA had 20/28 a few weeks ago. Not sure about Universal or International.

Good luck
