Chris, get a piece of flat stock that is used to make shelving, racks, etc. Maybe 1"- 1 1/4" wide and 1/8"-3/16" thick. Already has holes drilled in it. You should be able to line up a series of holes with your shelf spacing and drill corresponding holes into the center of the shelves. You may need to do front center and rear center supports, depending on where the shelves are already supported inside the cabinet. Then just a nut/washer/bolt and you're good to go.

I have used gang boxes for ammo and guns, they are not fire proof but lockable.
Light weight and easy to get into the location you want.
I put them on a couple of dolly’s for better mobility when full.

As I suspected, it wasn't 59" inside, but outside. Won't do. Think I may still get the little safe at $349 for ammo and stuff.

Still looking for a safe with over 56 1/2" height inside, for the longrifles.

I ran across some old school lockers . I have 9 flats of shells stacked and the top shelf for rifle,pistol,buckshot,ammo ect. Keyed all alike.

Last Year I posted this request for suggestions on replacing my inadequate ammo storage locker. The many recommendations were phenomenal and much appreciated. In the end I went with a tool storage cabinet and here is why.
When my wife and I downsized prior to our move 3 years ago from NH to South Carolina, I donated many tools, tool boxes and hardware to my son and others and only kept what I considered to be minimally needed tools to get by in retired life.
We then moved into our new home and set up the house and garage. The remaining tools and hardware ended up in multiple places and stored in Craftsman stack boxes, a small roller cabinet and several other locations. Not helpful.
So, in addition to needing a better ammo storage system, I decided on one location for my tools, ammo and reloading equipment. We decided to kill all those birds with one rock by purchasing a 3-piece ICON tool storage system which includes a 73” roller cabinet with an overhead work center and a side locker. I have therefore combined all my tools, reloading supplies/gear and ammo in one place and eliminated multiple other tool storage boxes. See photos.
Again, my thanks to the PGCA community for advice which led to the aforementioned solution!

Chris, Old school (vintage 60' 70's) steel four drawer file cabinets work great also. You can usually find them cheap at a used office supply warehouses. They will hold a surprisingly amount of weight and they are lockable.

Hello there! I noticed that this is an old forum post, but I still wanted to chime in just in case it could help someone else. Regarding your storage cabinet, have you considered upgrading to a heavier-duty one? You could try looking into brands like Stack-On or Homak for lockable cabinets that can handle the weight of your ammo and reloading supplies. Additionally, gun safes might also be a good option, but they can be pricey. By the way, I didn't notice you mentioned needing 6.5x52 carcano ammo. Have you had any luck finding it lately? It's always a bummer when the ammo you need is hard to come by, so it's better to buy some ammo in advance.
