My friend, Dave Cookson and I routinely run our setters at Crane WMA, Cape Cod. It's a 2000 acre expanse managed by MassWildlife. We use live quail in our training and at times, running 3 dogs of varying ages it can get competitive between the 3. My 2 setters, Max(8) and Lucy(3), also run in New England field trials on liberated and wild birds, so they pretty well know their manners. When it's just Max and Lucy running it's usually at a leisurely pace. But when Hazel, or even another dog, joins us all the it gets pretty competitive. This photo is an example of what happens. The point is actually Lucy's as Max was far out to the right when Lucy pointed and Hazel came up from behind to honor Lucy. Before I could walk up to flush the bird Max barrels in paying no mind to the other dogs and steals the point. All three dogs held through the flush and then collared off away from the area. Max and I had a brief discussion afterwards.
(Sorry I couldn't get the photo vertical)
