Default seek professional/expert advice, first

The topic repeatedly comes up on here about the harm that can be done to a vintage gun by well-intentioned but ill-considered cleaning. I am reminded of the picture that hung in the living quarters of my music teacher/violinist great Aunt.

Tragically you cannot undo some ill-advised, impulsive attempts to improve or clean fine things.
