Great pic Dan. Ive always had setters, but on pheasants, a well trained lab is probably the best dog. Ive often thought about getting a smallish, female yellow lab.

Labs are an amazing breed of dog. My June dog in the picture was bred from one of the best tournament hunting bitches in the country (The Blast’s Winning Streak, Winnie) and a fantastic AKC retriever stud (Hardscrabble Powder My Buns, Pow.) In June’s prime she was a bird finding machine and great retriever and earned a spot in the UFTA hall of fame as a tournament hunting dog but If I had to make a living putting wild roosters in the bag I’d have to pick my 2 English Springer Spaniels though. They were poetry in motion in pursuit of wild pheasants and relentless retrievers of crippled birds.

George, It's a recently acquired VHE 20 with 32" barrels, .024, .025 chokes, straight grip and Parker single trigger. Also has a set of later Remington 28" barrels numbered to the gun. It looks like it's spent a lot of time in the field and I really like it. The 28" barrels appear to have been the prior owner/owners barrels of choice as the 32" original set don't show near as much wear.

Way to go, Dan! I think you and Harold are right about Labs and pheasants. They go together well.
