A stock breaks from abuse/neglect. The owner thinks it broke due to poor design somehow. So they end up lengthening tangs and adding screws to actions/trigger guards. In an attempt to hold together the repaired stock better. Or to prevent the new stock they make for it from breaking. Often they end up failing again.
I cannot tell you how many items I have seen second screws added to pistol grip trigger guards in an attempt to “fix” a problem that wasn't there to start with.

The Grade 0 four frame 34” 10 gauge I have has an extension as well .
