Default Comparing roll crimpers 10 ga

Here's a few comparison pics I took between the single pin BPI crimper and the 4 pin crimper from Reloaders Network. The BPI as leaves a thicker square shoulder crimp where as the RN 4 pin is a more round shouldered crimp. Id have to check but I believe the RN crimp is around twice the price of the BPI one so its up to you which style you prefer really. I will say the BPI crimper requires alot less down pressure it feels like. I put a RST 2 5/8 shell for next to them for comparison as well. I wonder if they use a RN crimper but just more shallow?

RN 4 pin left BPI 1 pin middle and the RST well clearly its marked as such

I finally broke down and bought a 10 ga hull vice as they are almost impossible to hold by hand to crimp unlike the 8 gauge hulls which take barely any effort to crimp.

Milt, I picked up some of those 4-pin roll crimpers in 10, 12 & 16. Haven't used them yet but with winter setting in, I wind up doing a LOT of reloading.

I ordered 2 bags of Cheddite 10 ga hulls I got a 10 ga hull trimmer which should be quicker than the way I was trimming them, I also bought 1lb of Bluedot I found in stock which seemed impossible for awhile. Looking at the load data 38grs of Bluedot with 1 1/2oz in the 10 ga should be a good load especially for the 6 frame. Ive been loading up some 8 gauge loads as well.

I really enjoy sitting down and handloading and taking my time to make sure my roll crimps look nice not the most time effective way of loading perhaps.

Milton, I may not have posted this here before, but I'm sure I have on one of the forums. I use a MEC Supersizer as a hull vice. There are interchangeable collets available for it that will allow you to hold and gauge hull securely. Since I handled my 10s without a press it also is used to resize all of them. Double duty tool.

Here's an image of it in use with the .410 collet in place as I roll crimp some 3/4 oz. nickel plated shot .410s. Press down on the handle to grip the shell, crimp it, lift the handle to release the shell from the collet. Quick and easy. Just another option to do the same thing your hull vice does, but with the resizing option.

I havnt needed to resize any hulls yet so far they have measured the same after being fired. That does look like a pretty secure way of holding them but I dont think it would fit under my small drill press haha. The hull vice works pretty good and holds them into place so far.
