Default Parker Weekend

I finished-up my live bird season with a pheasant tower on Saturday and a mixed bag hunt today. I made it a Parker weekend using a DH pigeon gun Saturday and the DHE 16ga pictured here today. Both were a joy to use in the very different settings.

What is the really dark bird just under the gun in the foreground?

Congratulations on your shoot!

Looks like a melanistic pheasant. They’re very black.

We’ll done Matt!

It is indeed a cock pheasant. I should have thought to take some pictures of him. (I was too busy thinking to get a picture of the Parker....) In the sunlight you can see the iridescent purples and blues along with the black. He was a very beautiful and unusual pheasant.

We also had two unusual quail in the bag. They were both almost completely rust colored. They are the two top-most quail nearest the dog.
