Why are .22 cartridges and powders in short supply?

we have tried to figure that out in a couple threads
http://parkerguns.org/forums/showthread.php?t=10073 http://parkerguns.org/forums/showthread.php?t=9661 i see the big box sporting goods stores around here are having sales on many types of ammo- including .22s last week, so what ever the reason the shortage seems to be easing - but I don't expect the prices to get much better, Newtons law of what goes up must come down never applies to money. the next thing is the news that the last "primary" lead smelter in the country is planning to close the end of the year. http://www.nraila.org/news-issues/ar...-december.aspx So, is more lead hoarding the next crisis?

Someone suggested that .22's are in short supply because all available production capacity was redirected to more profitable center fire pistol rounds. Now that it appears that pistol ammo is not in such short supply, we should start to see .22's again

The .22 shortage is a real mystery to me. I know folks hoarded them but there is a good little video on youtube that shows CCI making over 2 million rounds per day throughout the 'shortage' so how could there possibly be a shortage?? Somehow it doesn't make sense. At least they're not $100/brick now as they were at Denver gun shows last spring. I can tell you I have plenty!

It's all about price control. Remember the 1973 "gasoline shortage"?... Yeah, right!

The shortage/non existence of 22 LR is real, it has gone on for most of the year and as far as I can see it persists for whatever the reason(s), and they are not good for sportsmen. |

Well i'm heading back to Shirk's sometime in early December to get a load for us and a friends shop !
As long as I can get 3 or 4 pounds of SR7625 and a couple pounds of SR4756 my shotgun powder needs are covered . Also may as well pick up some of the Claybuster knockoff AA16 wads and some Remington SP-10's . Couple thousand 209 primers as well . A bag of Magnum 6's also . I'd like to get a 5 pounder of Unique but Shirk told me last trip that he didn't expect to get any Alliant powders before the first of the year . In the past we've gotten delivery from Park's in North Carolina , but as of the last 4-6 months they have virtually nothing we order except shot and clay targets . So I have to hit the road for the two shops every so often .
