My first Parker

Just purchase my first Parker and would like to learn more about it.Everything leads me back to this form for answers.

Ser#208682 - 1924 GH grade

Is the checkering above the triggers normal?
Is the butt plate correct?

Congrats on your first Parker Todd! A 1 frame 12 ga is desirable. No, the butt plate configuration is not correct, and the checkering on the cheeks was probably added later. How long are the barrels? I do like the gun, however.

Very nice wood; technically too nice for a GHE (as stated above, the checkering on the side panel is not consistent for the grade) but the ''1" frame is quite rare. The large forend is a bonus to me. It appears the barrels are either 26 or 28". Have you measured the chokes? It would be helpful to see the left side details you show of the right side and a closeup of the muzzle end; rib and front.

That is a very nice gun no matter what. A great find for a "first" Parker!

There are a lot of things suspect about the gun. The buttplate has a spacer added to it. the forend is not original it would have had a splinter forend. The gun does not have the proper forend lug for a beavertail and the style of the forend wood is not at all correct for a factory forend. The wood has been refinished for sure. The cheek checkering looks of factory quality, but it is not in line with the norm for the grade. The lack of proper borders on the wrist checkering suggests a low quality recut, or maybe a later remington stock replacement as the style of border present was only used on very late remington made guns.

Don't expect much information in a PGCA letter. The gun was made after the era of "order books". However, I order a letter on all my Parkers, just in case.

She is a beauty, much like the girl I dated out of high school with non-original hair color.
I wouldn't kick that gun out of the safe for eating crackers.

Brian for the sake of Education on my part which photo can you tell that the gun doesnt have the proper forend lug for the beavertail forend?

Todd, you have a beautiful Parker. I saw this same gun on gun broker last week. While it does have a few things that are not original, don't let that keep you from enjoying it. It's a great looking classic Parker that you should be proud to own. If it fits you, and you shoot it well then enjoy it for what it is.
