Both are number 3 buttplates. It is the largest hard rubber buttplate parker offered. Used on 3 frame guns and above.

The skeleton steel butt plate was most definitely the standard for the Grade 3 and higher. But Parker Bros would do just about anything (within reason and good taste) by request. My 1880 16 gauge Lifter was made with thd standard skeleton butt plate but was sent back to Parker to replace it with a hard rubber plate. .

Made to look like a skeleton but the thing I’m most impressed with are the screws engraved to match the checkering.
