Terry Wieland's Vintage British Shotguns
Published by Countrysport Press, 2008, Wieland's book is a thorough discussion of the English game gun--how it is defined and the hows and whys of its making and use. He, of course, discusses the most famous makers, but he also writes about the less well known. His scope is 1870 to 1940 with, to him , the best years from 1890 to 1914. In Section II, he writes about specific companies and their products; this section also includes comments from Jack Rowe and George Caswell --gunmaker and dealer, respectively--about the guns they are familiar with. The book concludes with Appendices on British gun proofs (London and Birmingham), a bibiography, and index. I found the book eye-opening in many ways, well written, and informative. Highly recommended.
