The rib is correct factory for Syracuse guns. What happened to the barrel stop?? The mechanism in the round hole.

It's a First Style Reinforcing Wedge. The earliest example found to date is an 1893 A1 with damascus barrels. It is possible that the wedge was added at a later date.
Scroll about 1/2 way down here for other examples, and I added your image

David Williamson on the LCSCA site has a better DOM list for Syracuse and early Fulton guns.

BTW: the barrels are Laminated Steel and the rough forged tubes were from Birmingham; note the Provisional Proof mark.

We pulled that out to check it and clean it , my extractor doesn't want to stay up very well !

And thanks for the info I was kinda thinking that may have been an after market .

Well then my gun seriel numbers to 1890 so now I have the earliest known

Thanks that link was helpfull !

I thought the barrels were more of a twist rather then damascus !

Actually I snapped the left barrel firing pin last night . So at the moment I need to replace the firing pin , replace the spring in the forend and figure out why the extractor won't stay up even though "it appears" that everythings there and intact !

Bill, I have seen a letter for a DH that said it was patterned for buck shot. If I recall correctly, the original owner was in La.

Well a new firing pin has been fabricated heat treated and installed !

Now all thats left is to get the forend back , I sent that off to my stock guy to fix the tip were the ebony inlay is .

Once thats back I'll try some primed cases in the gun to make sure then pin is okay !

And then fabricate a forend flat spring .

I think I'm in need of a Parker , LeFever , Remington and Colt in 10 gauge hammerless for comparison !

Already have the Scott , this Smith and a fluid steel Ithaca NID

I may give that Smith a try at 25 and 50 yards with #4 Magnum birdshot to see whats what . But I think I'll shoot at something larger then a drink can Charlie !

Keep your fingers crossed that the guy who brought this one in has a good shootable Parker hammerless 10 that I can pick up relatively cheap !
