My young friend, Tyler, and I went out two Saturdays ago hoping to find a bit of open water and a straggler mallard or two. It was bitter, with only one small hole open, due to three days of 45 mph winds. We took turns walking up the water to keep the hole open. The decoys froze in pretty quickly. There was 2 inch thick ice near the shore. We stayed for almost 4 hours. It was cold. We were crazy. I loved it.
Our season ends on the 27th, but it really ended a couple of weeks ago.
