David,
Welcome to this forum, I joined last year, the members are very helpful. I found a couple of nice side by side shotguns from members in the forum also. |

A few more pictures would be helpful, especially a complete picture of the bottom of the breech area, showing all marks, and a picture of the wood and butt area. The 4-8 marking, indicating a pre struck barrel weight of 4 pounds, eight ounces, indicates a heavy gun, most likely safe for shooting.

Thanks for the welcome everyone! I will get a better pic for you soon. I took those before I cleaned it and noticed more markings. I am unsure of the marking on the barrel lug. It has what looks like a J.S. And then a 02 where most others I’ve seen pictures of seem to have a single number there for frame size. I’ll
Post up a pic. I ran a camera through the bore today and it looks decent for its age, minimal pitting. I also ran an inside micrometer through and discovered it’s a 10ga with an improved cylinder choke. Really excited about that. I do have a question about the forend. I understand these were all hand fitted so I expect to do some fitting when I finally find one, but will a forend from any of the parkers be a match? Or do I need to find a similar year and gauge size? |

A similar year and frame size would be most important. I see by the 02 stamped on the bottom of the rear lug that your gun is a 2 frame size.
And the J.G. Is the mark of James Geary a long-time barrel maker at Parker Bros. Now that I look at it closer it may be J.S which is the mark of John Stokes who was primarily a lock maker but did other manufacturing jobs with Parker Bros during his tenure. The two accompanying pictures are from “The Parker Story” by Mullins, Price, parker, Gunther, et al. . .
