Craig, glad you're finding birds and having fun. Shooting great guns is really icing on the cake, isn't it?

I hope you'll post more when you have time.

Garry: Plenty of pheasants in South Dakota for next year, we flushed as many hens as roosters if the weather cooperates. We hunted shelter belts and sorghum strips. This was the 4th week of the season and the birds were jumpy.

Thanks for more pictures. There’s nothing quite like the broad vistas on the prairie. Any sharptails?

No sharptails but they can be encountered in the area we hunted. Phil we were near Witten about 3 hours west of Sioux Falls.

Craig the mention of Witten brings back some memories. Assuming it's the same Witten in Tripp County about 30 minutes W of Winner. Used to be a saloon there in the business district, (that meant it was graveled) owned by Gary Elder who lived up the road off of 44 near Wood. Used to go in there just to listen to Gary tell stories. Unfortunately he had to let it go due to declining health and subsequently Gary passed about a little over a year ago. Do you know if the Blue Moon Saloon is still operating? We were just a tad W of there earlier this year. Sorry to say the Phez numbers were off due to what the locals referred to as a 100" of snow. The Sharpies and Chickens were as numerous as I have ever seen them in that area.

Enjoy your hunt and tell Rick I said hey !!

Stopped in Winner for fuel and Jeff's Gun Shop. Never made it into Witten downtown. Great trip headed back next year.

Craig, I'd be happy to go out with you next year. Share the driving etc. It's been a few years that I've hunted SD. Always plenty of birds and great fun. My setter would be in heaven!
