Claybusters are too loose and you will get powder migration.
Use the SP-28 in 2 3/4" Cheddite Hull, and SP-28II in 2 1/2" Cheddite hulls. Universal and 20/28 are nearly identical in loading, and You'll be pleasantly surprised what 11grs will do, behind 3/4oz. Edit: " too loose" in Cheddite hulls. This is the case using fine grain powders like 20/28. Can't say whether it's also true using a bulkier powder. |

I’ve got the SG-28 wads ordered. Is a SG-28 wad the same wad as a Gualandi 2838 wad?

I pretty much make the same shells and I found that some runs of wads will not fill the column as they should and leave a concave crimp with a small hole. I found that a 1/8" 28g nitro card under the BP wad does the trick. Perfect crimps when needed.

Here are a couple of tested loads I've found using 28ga. 2 3/4" RST (Cheddite) hulls. The jury is still out on the quality of these hulls for reloading as I'm finding out that they are not in the same league as the Winchester AA or Remington STS hulls that I've been reloading since the Dark Ages.
* 28ga. 2 3/4" RST (Cheddite) hull * Cheddite 209 primer * 14.4 gr. Hodgdon Universal Clays powder * SG-28 wad * 3/4 oz. shot * 1200 fps * 10,300 psi * 28 ga. 2 3/4" RST (Cheddite) hull * Cheddite 209 primer * 14.7 gr Hodgdon Longshot powder * SG-28 wad * 3/4 oz. shot * 1225 fps * 9000 psi
