Good grief, a zero frame DHE 24" 16 and a Clown catalog. You have to tell us more. We would also like to see pictures of the gun in the case.

Bill,
The case is softwood. Pine or spruce I would guess. I wondered if it might have been a shipping case that was repurposed, The lining is falling apart and I want to reline. The two hooks and 2 hinges are brass. One hook has broken off. The leather strap is secured on the bottom with wood screws. Looks homemade and obviously very old. I will attach a photo. The gun was found in the attic of the previous owner in the case shown. The previous owner wasn't born when the gun was completed. I can't ask its history. My thought is it was his father's gun. The house was home to 5 generations of the same family. As completed on May 25, 1916 the gun lettered with 13 1/4" LOP, 3" DAH, weight 5 pounds 13 ounces. Unfortunately, there is no order information to know the original dealer or buyer. Specifications are so unusual I wouldn't expect the gun was made for inventory but I may never know its history. The "Clown Catalog" unfortunately isn't original but is embroidered on my sweatshirt, well fortunately it is on my sweatshirt. It is a one off that I has done for myself. |

Bruce, Thank-you I wondered about this very subject especially with a light gun. The only documentation I found were hang tags for 16s using 1 oz. of #7 shot. I think one tag was submitted by you, the one that was only partial after mouse damage.
I wonder about other light guns and if there is any info on weight of load used by PB in comparison with heavier guns of the same gauge? Erick |

That's a great little DHE Erick.
Somebody did a really nice piece of embroidery on the clown patch. |

I saw an O frame 16 26 inch 1910 hang tag for7 8 oz. Yours is light and I think would be 7 8. My 20 ga 24 at 5 12. WAs patterned with 3 4. Heavier 16s use 1 oz loads. I think but cannot so far prove that most of the O frame 16 26s were meant for 7 8.

I have hang tags for my VH 1 frame 16 ser # 212735. It specifies 1 oz 7's, 2 1/2 drams,
RH 170 pellets and LH 220 in a 30" circle at 40yds (m/f). It is interesting to see those low velocities as compared to the 1300+fps many people shoot today (not me).
