At the request of the OP, Mr. Higgins I am going to post another pic of the previously posted BHE. Seems I may be in need of some better camera equipment. My digital camera cant be much over 20 years old. I like the birds on this one as well...

Who would have engraved dogs on Grade 3 top levers around 1886/1887? Is that recorded anywhere or known to anybody?

Do you have The Parker Story ?

Engraving contractors and chief or head engravers are listed there. If you don't have TPS I can look it up tomorrow sometime.

Dean, I do not have a copy of TPS. Your look up would be appreciated. Thanks.

According to pg. 478 of TPS, William E. Avery headed Parker Brothers engraving fron 1877 to 1887 but there is no entry for any other individual as being a Parker Brothers engraving contractor during this period.

I think we must assume there were others though, as no one man could have engraved the many thousands of guns produced during this ten year prriod...

Thank you Dean. Insightful information. It would be interesting to see side by side comparisons of the dog engravings during this 10 year period to see if there’s a pattern/style to identify if there was one or multiple engravers doing just the dogs.

Generally speaking (again) the game scenes (dogs, birds, stags, etc.) were done by the head or chief engraver while the scroll was done by the journeymen engravers.
