Keep in mind that leather faced silvers type pads were also very common. Leather FACED, not leather COVERED.

Under normal use and conditions was it very likely they would last let’s say 85-100 years ?

Depends I think on storage, maintenance and general overall use/abuse. I have owned several that I am convinced were the original factory installed pads.

I have an early SC with a very professional leather covered, not faced, pad. The letter specifies a "deluxe pad". I think I have a factory leather covered pad.
