In another recent post, I tried to explain that the more coveted versions of the Repro may not be at all rare, but just held in collections and not often put up for sale. 28" barrels are a good example of a selection that may have been common and made in large quantities when Repros were made, but have become scarce because of their recent popularity over 26" barrels. 28" single barrel sets have become almost rare in recent years. They weren't hard to find when they were in production. Two barrel sets are about the only way to obtain a 28" barrel gun today, but the surcharge is sometimes as high as $3000. The original surcharge was $900. The good news is that, last week, I saw a Repro in mint condition with great features sell for about $400 less than the original retail. No, I didn't buy it, because I am not fond of 26" barrels.

28" with open chokes is a special order item if marked as such. These are the best of the best.

Right. Have you ever seen any? I never have, at least not in 28 ga.

Carol Watson Orange Coast had an auction last weekend which included several exceptionally nice repros. I got the only deal IMO, a new in case 12 ga DHE English grip, long BT FE, super fancy walnut, DTs, 26", $2750 + BP. There were some other primo cased sets including a 20 ga that I wanted badly but they hammered much higher. I may have the engraving enhanced and the checkering borders muellered although the gun looks pretty damn nice as is.

Another West Coast auction last week hammered a 12 gauge with beavertail, double triggers and 26" barrels for $3000, about $400 less than the last retail. Those who like 26" barrels can find some great deals. I am about to come out of the weeds to score a 26" gun.
