I avoided all this by driving out to Delgrego's to drop off my 16 and again to pick it up. The gun belonged to my grandfather, then my dad a d now me. A family piece. Did not want to take any chances with a carrier

About 50 years ago, I bought a 6 gauge W&C Scott from Jim Tice in Moyock, North Carolina. It arrived with a broken stock and I filed a claim with USPS, for the full value of the gun, and/or repair. My claim was approved and I was allowed to keep the gun. Since then, I haven't had a bad delivery or a lost gun. I did have a Model 21 left on my carport, but I found it a week later and it was not damaged. End of story.
