hard to tell from a top view- i see the joint line in the corner, but half blind dovetails and finger joints would both have a straight joint line there
box joint is just another name for finger joints - as well as "comb joint" although there is a joint used to join boards end to end that some also call a finger joint its a bit like the first time I tried to order a milkshake in New England as a kid, they shook a pint of milk and handed it to me. I told them what I wanted and the light came on - Oh you mean a Frappe toe-mato - toe-moto

I'm not smart enough to do dovetail joints. These are plain box joints. I made a simple fixture that fit the square on the table saw, and either use a dado blade set, or just two or three combination blades. The stock (Honduras mahogany in this case) is oversized for the internal height of the box, so I just set the fence, and sawed all 8 edges. I would attach top and bottom, before I slit the box in two.
Thank you all for your flattering comments. I'm not a woodworker, unless you count chainsaws and baseball bats. I just enjoy it, when I can't be outside or in the woods. George is right; my shop is usually a mess. Who am I kidding; it's always a mess. It's a gift. I have 4 shops. The barn is for steam engines and Land Rovers, The sugarhouse, when not sugar season is for smaller antique machinery, the basement is loosely divided into wood and reloading on one side, and gunwork, and 'clean' work on the other. My wife refuses to give up her corner for laundry. Damn squatters. |

And the mess? You would give serious money to have 1/2 hour to load as much of his "mess" into your car as you could. In fact, it could be a new TV show. |
