Milton the dark spots are were the finish is worn down to the bare wood and most likely the owner rubbed in linseed oil which has darkened with time. But it does add character in my opinion.

John Hosford was shooting the black powder loads. I was in the vendors tent the first time he touched one off. It shook the whole tent. I have never heard any gun boom like his did. The recoil was tremendous. I would have loved to see that go off at night.

I agree , I think it brings a nice contrast to the other features overall . Looks to have actually been fielded as a proper big bore fowling piece .

I’m sure it was very much like the concussion that reverberates throughout the shooting grounds when Frank Cronin touches off his massive 10 bore Parker with a heavy charge of black powder.

I will never forget the first time i heard Frank's 10 at the New Years shoot. The concussion lifted my pant legs and was louder than any shot i had ever heard outside the army. The 8 must have been something to see and hear.
