So so true ! I took two hang around your neck bling from the 16 and 20 Parker Smith challenges at Sanford to the Philippines to give my grandson . He said cool and laid them on my wife’s dresser , I said you don’t want Ampah’s medals I’m giving to you . He replied “let Nana hold on to them”

When I first shot NSSA targets everyone gave trinkets/trophies and after you’d accumulated a bunch of the stuff cash was better and took over as it was easier . But now thirty years later I like the trophies/bling again .

With sporting clays the norm here in the northeast up until a few years ago was to give a T shirt screened with the name of the registered event. Yes you paid for it with your entry fee but it was much more useful to all shooters than a window ledge or box full of shiny trinkets to the few who won this or that event.

In the world of ATA, everybody gets a participation pin for the State, Zone, Grands, etc. Silver platters, vases and other hood ornaments, as well as leather goods and belt buckles are popular trophies for the winners.

John, as the kids/grandkids are throwing out the BLING, they'll be saying to each other just how awesome dad/grandpop was. As you said, $$ is fleeting. I won't turn it down, but it goes fast!

As for T-shirts at the shoots, I hated the cheap shirts with crappy designs. They went into the rag bucket. It also is a royal PITA for the club to have everyone's size and then you still have the registered shooters whining that they don't fit or would rather have it in white, blue, red........

Unless you're shooting box birds and have a very good day with the options, you're not buying anything but a few beverages or Backwoods Smokes with any $$ at these events.
