Julia heard an ugly rumor today that shotgun shells are due for yet another price increase. I went on RST's website to load up and they were out of stock of everything I normally get from them. Julia went online to order some of her shells and her supplier was out too.

It would seem to me that as shooters who reload run out of and can't find powder they will turn to shooting factory loaded shells, increasing the demand for factory loaded shells. This will probably worsen and prolong the bulk powder shortage as the big ammo makers get priority for powder and will need more of it. This could be a viscious cycle for a time to come.

It already is a vicious cycle and looks to be getting worse.

No need to worry. Homeland Security just by itself recently ordered 704 million rounds. If my math is close, that would be enough to fight WWII for about a week. Worldwide.

Add in the other govt agency orders and... you need a few train loads of powder.

I feel safer already...

Does it bother anyone else that Homeland Security feels it needs that amount of ammunition? What are they preparing themselves for?

I was not too pleased when they created the Department of Homeland Security in the first place. Don't we have enough law enforcement agencies already?

The audience here might care to visit Wikipedia. Then put "gestapo" into the search box. In part, you will learn this:

“As part of the deal in which Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany, Hermann Göring—future commander of the Luftwaffe and an influential Nazi Party official—was named Interior Minister of Prussia. This gave him command of the largest police force in Germany. Soon afterward, Göring detached the political and intelligence sections from the police and filled their ranks with Nazis. On 26 April 1933, Göring merged the two units as the Gestapo…

“Göring himself urged Hitler to extend the agency's authority throughout Germany. This represented a radical departure from German tradition, which held that law enforcement was (mostly) a Land (state) and local matter.”

Any of this sound familiar?

What gets me is the people getting hurt in this whole thing are small suppliers like RST and people like us who want to perpetuate vintage guns and good sportsmanship. If they want to go after the bad guys, good, go after the bad guys, but leave us alone
