There is a very nice VHE 28 at Greens guns in the $15K range.
Francis there is nothing wrong with the 28 for birds or clays. I picked up a nice VHE 28 at the U.P. about 5yrs ago. I shoot lots of birds and some clays with it. Arn't you without a Parker at this time?? |

A 28 ga. is my ideal gun for skeet, a bit of SC and of course pa'tridge an' woodcock.

But the 28 gauges- both the shells and the doubles that burn them up so well on the clays- humm- I can shoot a whole ton more by using my 12's- I'm so used to their weight and feel (I love that 8 lb. 2E Smith with the 32" VR barrels) that the little 16- O frame 26" PH I traded away at the UP Shoot felt like a 28- to me. Also, as I prefer splinter forearms on my doubles (unless I get real serious about the two-man flurry derby, then a modified beavertail might get the nod) the width of a 12 double- my fingers don't interfere with my sight over the barrels- but with the smaller barrels of a 28- But I'll tell you what- if I get really lucky and win the 12 GHE DAM raffle gun this Sept, I'll put it out for trade against a nice Parker Repro DHE- 28 gauge 26" barrels IC/Mod- straight hand stock, DT, field style beavertail forearm (like the early M21 "Kidney pattern") and with nice solid red Silvers pad with a 14.5" LOP and no cast- in case- then after I've had it and shot it on clays for a few seasons, I'll let you know what I think- just please remember- I am a devout waterfowl and pheasant hunter- and in my lexicon, them birds spells 12 gauge (to me anyway)!

I can reload my 28's for less than a 12. Seeing as I won a case of RST 28's at Hausmanns, ammo won't be a problem for quite a while
. I would rather run a 22 or 23 at skeet with a 28 than 24-25 with a 12.My VHE is straight stock, splinter forarm and double trigger. I have no problem seeing down those 28 inch skeet choked tubes. |
