Brian, what did you do to spruce up the gun? I'm guessing a stock refinishing and checkering recut. If you did refinish the stock, what type of finish did you use?

Big thanks to John Davis for a wonderful donation

Thanks for posting the photos Larry. It was a pleasure to work on this gun and it made me want one myself. Hammer guns higher than grade 2 are not very often seen for sale. This one has very nice barrel finish and it shoulders nicely. It has good dimensions.

This gun had its wood pretty messed up by both wear and a poor checkering recut. The forend had an attempt and a full cover checkering job that got out of control by the back and the lines were going in all sorts of directions. The buttstocks finish was ok, but all the detail at the head and wrist was worn away. Drop points were there, but worn almost flat and the "hump" that comes to a point on the top was completely indistinguishable. The checkering on the wrist was also very messed up. Lots of over runs and the patterns was not the same from side to side.

I had to completely wipe out all of the checkering on the wrist, and I was able to re define the drop points and the pointed "hump" in the process. This called for also re inletting the stock shield. Due to all that work, the stock needed to be refinished. Checkering all recut new. And the butt checkering recut. The forend was beyond repair so it was replaced, finished and checkered.
The finish is an amber shellac with a very thin top coat of Tru Oil.

Is the Raffle Gun section of the "Parker Store" on the home page going to be updated with the 2014 information?

I want to post a link to it on my website as to maybe try and drive some sales.

I would feel very guilty about buying one ticket and winning that gun. But I would get over it.

Unfortunately the sections of the PGCA website available through the Home page are not currently being maintained. I would offer my services IF I had more time on my hands with less to do than I currently have.
