We would be surprised how durable a wax finish is on metal. In 1987, I bought a 682 Beretta that had the standard Beretta, almost parkerized, finish on the barrels. I didn't like it, so applied a coat of my Mom's Johnsons Paste Wax and buffed it well. Today, it is still shiny and shows no sign of returning to the factory matte finish. I don't remember ever redoing it, although I may have once.

Allen got us onto wax on the wood but am I understanding that everyone else is referring to using the various types of wax mentioned on color case hardening? I understand the wax is ok for the barrels but is it ok for the case hardened areas?
