My brother and I shot a tower shoot in Michigan some years back. They're kind of wild, with a lot of shooters around the tower. My brother took a pellet in the temple from an adjacent shooting position where the shooter swung a bit too far our way. Just left a small red spot and broken skin, but could have been a lot worse. We stayed well tucked back behind the plywood guards after that.

Certainly not anything like Mr. Bill experienced with the clay target fragment but, since the discussion has expanded to being hit by birds and shot, I have been hit by shot numerous times in my lifelong pursuit of doves. A couple of times it resulted in blood loss, but usually nothing more than a sprinkling. I carry a lead no. 8 in my face now as a result of the most recent careless shot by another dove field shooter. You can tell by the distorted shape of the shot that it hit me with great force. If you don't think shooting glasses are warranted in the field this should be a wake-up call for you.

I've never been hit by a falling bird that I, or another, have shot but have caught doves in my hand, numerous times, that I have shot .......... incomers always.

I've seen a lady dog handler knocked off her feet by a falling pheasant
