The first gun appears to be made by Simpson & Co if I read the barrel marking correctly. I've had a few of those over the years, of various grades, and yours appears to be a higher grade gun. Truly an heirloom to be proud of.

Solvent>??
What kind of Solvent do you use? I am new and "found" a parker. I just got it back from the gunsmith. It looks to be a grade 3 but cannot get it open. He also suggests I soak it. For a year or so. What type/kind do you recommend?

If you plan to "soak" any part of it in a solvent you should make certain no solvent comes into contact with any of the wood finish. .

I can't imagine having to soak anything for a " YEAR or So !!!!!! First ,what all was the gun smith you just got it back from suppose to do to the gun ? Would it open when you sent it to him ? I restored an Austin Healey Engine years ago that sit outside in one position for 15 Years with most of the spark plugs removed and only had to soak the pistons for about three months to get them moving again and removed from the cylinders ! I would think something mechanical holding it up !

That simpson is a nice gun! Someone blued the frame at one point, but nonetheless beautiful. I have an Emil Kerner that is very comparable to it. Do you know if it has any Merkel markings on it? As in the barreled action supplied by Merkel?

I just posted a new thread under new members with pictures. I would guess it has been in the dirt for 80 years or so.... It's a wall hanger for sure but I would still like to get it open. |

Welcome and howdy
Hi Robert saw you’re in Tacoma. I’m down I-5 a piece in Chehalis. Maybe we can have a Parker picnic in Western Washington as this COVID fades and the weather warms this summer.
Welcome, Francis Marshall |
