Stan, it could be caused in part by Bergman’s rule? The rule is that the closer you get to the poles, the larger the deer’s body gets. That may also influence the hair too.

Yea, but this is eastern Ohio ,not the Northwoods
We grow big deer with big racks here. Seems like there is a big buck in every hollow
