What a great find Mills! That is a heck of a nice 10 gauge! I like everything about it. I also like seeing hammer guns with brass shells close by

The letter says it was ordered by Carlos Gove who was a famous gunmaker in Denver, Colorado back in the old days. Kind of cool.

Gove made wonderful guns, especially custom modified Springfield trapdoors that rival modern custom rifles.

Go on doublegunshop.com, the "single barrel and custom rifle" subforum. Someone on there will know about Gove, I hope. I searched "Gove" on that subforum and got a bunch of hits. S.D. Hughes, (I believe), Michael Petrov and I created that great subforum with the permission and assistance of webmaster Dave Weber several years ago. The search netted some pictures.

Thanks Bill. Some interesting info there and photos. I saw the comment that most of the info on Gove is out there and has been repeated over and over. That is what I have found in my brief search since getting this gun.
I found some suggestion that he was a competitive shooter and wonder if this 10 gauge could have been used for competitions? It seems he liked heavy guns and this 10 gauge is indeed heavy |
