I've had four Labs. Loved them all like children. Setters are different. If you're a grouse hunter, and I am, I think the Setter is the better tool. That's my feeling. Don't get me wrong, there's something to be said about the Toyota Corolla nature of a Lab. They always get up and go, they don't break down, you can wash them by throwing them in a creek or lake, or hose them off hard, they'll digest bullets if you forget the food, and they never fail to love. But man, walking up on a setter on point on a grouse or woodcock is almost the most fun I've had standing up. Almost, but I forget her name now ... : )

Andy,

I'm trying hard to bite my tongue, but I can't stop.

Comparing a Lab to a Corolla, I'm don't have a Lab but you're really insulting any and all Lab's

The only thing better than a Setter is two Setters.

Toyota Corolla? As a Ford retiree, I resent that remark. Labs are more like an F250

OK maybe a Corolla was a bad choice!!! If I had to choose American it would be a Ford F150. But I've owned them all, and no, sorry to say, Toyota slays about every American car in reliability. All of these without a single major repair other than brakes, muffler, CV joints:

Highlander 365,000
Highlander 370,000
Land Cruiser 390,000
Tundra 290,000
My 4 Runner now has 90,000 miles only one set of rotors were replaced.

Then resale and trade in value really shows you where the smart money is. OK this is off topic. Flame away at me!!

I never met a well mannered bird dog I didn't like. Regardless of the breed. Sporting dogs are one of God's greatest gifts to man.
