Here's a new 8 gauge 4 1/4" hull compared to a Cheddite 10 ga 3.5" for anyone curious. From what I've seen the 4 1/4" 8 gauge magnums are usually in the 15-17lb range.
2 1/4oz will fit in a 10 ga 2 7/8" hull but I figure John Olin probably didn't want people shooting loads like that in their grandpa's old 10 ga haha hence the 3.5". |

My Smallwood eight has 4" chambers and is marked for 2 3/4 oz shot and 8 drams of BP.

No I’m not ! But if you had them “perhaps” they’d be willing to cut you some slack . Now whether I actually plan on shooting 3 1/2” 10’s that’s a big most likely not , the shells would just be for looks hoping they weren’t astute enough to realize what they were looking at . Actually I’d probably just carry a couple 2 7/8” handloads that looks more believable .
